Chad Patillo was born in the Pacific Northwest, raised in the Midwest and now lives in Sparta, Georgia. He moved to the south six years ago after accepting a job to implement and oversee a newly constructed fiber-optic communications / rural broadband system. For over twenty-five years, Chad worked in the cable communications business, from cable installer to operations manager.
In 2016, Chad's life changed tremendously after suffering a heart attack which led him to make some changes in his professional and personal life. It was shortly after that he discovered his talent for creating beautiful works of art from finding, local and salvaged wood. He began making wooden spoons and bowls from wood that he found locally in the forests around his home. He has now expanded into making more complex pieces such as chess boards, furniture, wildlife carvings, with not only indigenous wood but also any salvaged wood he may find.
The appreciation he feels for nature and the beauty in it, the joy he receives from finding a new purpose from a fallen log or a discarded piece of old wood and his thoughts that so many things in society have become disposable, are exactly what fuels Chad's creativity.
